Growth Series

As Christians, we are all called to grow in our faith.  In Ephesians 4:13, the Apostle Paul challenges each of us to "become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."  That's a remarkable promise - attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ, and one that each Christian should intensely desire.  But how do we reach that level of maturity?

Starting in September we will begin offering three new Growth Series classes, designed to help us take the next step in our journey towards spiritual maturity, both as individuals and as a church. The classes will last about 12 weeks and will cover these key areas of our faith:

The Essentials   (Understanding what we believe and why)
This class will start with the basics and move on to look at the core truths of the Christian faith  It's perfect for those who have just become followers of Christ as well as for those who want a better understanding of where we stand on key theological issues.  Led by Pastor Dave, we'll examine the Bible, including how we got it and how to understand it.  Then we'll look at each point in our Statement of Faith, discovering who God is, who Jesus is and what that means to us.  We'll look at the human condition, learn about the Holy Spirit, Heaven, Hell and the return of Christ.

Developing a Christian Worldview    (How to find sense amid the confusion of 21st century life)
Real faith comes from understanding that God is always in control, but that can be a tough concept to grasp wih all that goes on in our world and in our lives.   In Phillipians 4:7, the apostle Paul tells us that "the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus," but still we struggle with doubt and fear.
In this class, Jill Verburg will be presenting The Truth Project, material developed in association with Focus on the Family and designed to help us view the world from a different perspective and grow in our ability to live the abundant life Jesus promised.

Evangelism   (How to help others understand the Gospel)
In Matthew 28, Jesus gives his disciples their marching orders:
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
We're called to make disciples, sharing the good news of forgiveness found in Jesus Christ.  But many Christians have a hard time doing that.  This class, taught by Virgil Carter, will provide some assistance in how to get started.
